Individual Therapy
-
Individual psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy used to treat a wide range of concerns (e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, emotional difficulties, identity development, stigma and discrimination, addiction, relational distress, etc.). At its core, individual therapy aims to develop and strengthen insight, connection, compassion, resilience, and emotional self-awareness.
Sessions are typically 46-50 minutes in length. We recommend that sessions start on a weekly basis to ensure you get the most out of therapy and to help speed up progress.
The style and approach to individual psychotherapy will vary depending on your psychologist’s training and background. Common styles of research and evidence-based therapies include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
At Grove, we pride ourselves on tailoring our approach to therapy to meet your individual needs, as we believe that treatment is not a one-size-fits-all model. During your initial session, your psychologist will work with you to develop a treatment plan unique to your needs and presenting concerns.
We currently offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. A virtual format is available for those unable to attend the clinic or who live far away.

We offer both short-term and long-term individual therapy.
Short-term therapy (e.g., around 12-16 weeks) can help target stressful life transitions, challenging decision-making, emotion dysregulation, and acute mood symptoms (e.g., sudden onset of anxiety).
Long-term therapy is most effective at addressing long-standing relational patterns and persistent or recurring symptoms. Recommendations regarding the length of treatment will be collaboratively determined with your psychologist during the first few sessions and will be revisited throughout treatment.

Finding the right fit is an essential component to successful therapy. We recommend reading over our team bios. If you have read our team bios and know who you would like to work with, please let our reception team know when you call to book in.
If you are unsure or have questions, please ask for a complimentary intake phone call with the director of the clinic. The purpose of this call is to discuss your therapy needs, answer any questions or concerns, and talk through the different psychologists available.

No!
We are big proponents of preventative therapy, particularly for our younger clients. Building emotion regulation tools and self-awareness early on can help foster resilience and grit. Being able to differentiate, identify, and express our feelings is a valuable and empowering skill set.

The Australian Psychological Society recommends a fee of $318 per 46-50 min therapy session with a registered psychologist.
At Grove, pricing will depend on the clinician and service being offered. You can expect fees for a 46-50 min session to range from $115-285. Our goal is to provide accessible care. If you have concerns about fees, please bring them to your clinician's attention. We offer a sliding scale or concession rate for those in need.
Under Medicare, you may be eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). With this plan, you will be able to access up to ten rebated psychology sessions per calendar year.
We also accept funding from NDIS, ADF, and Workers Compensation.
If you have private health cover, you may be eligible to claim therapy sessions. Please speak with your provider.
Note: We are currently in the process of growing our team of clinicians. More services (e.g., couples and family therapy) coming soon.
