Couples and Relationship Therapy Specialist 

Alyssa recently moved to Australia from the United States where she earned her BA in Psychology and her MS in Counselling. Alyssa is a Licensed Professional Counsellor in the US and a Level 4 certified Counsellor in Australia.  Alyssa had a successful private practice for 17 years in Portland, Oregon as a couples therapy specialist and has attended numerous training sessions with some of the highest regarded educators in the field of relationship psychology such as John Gottman, Esther Perel, Marty Klein and Terry Real. Alyssa was an active member of the American Counseling Association, The American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.  She has intensive training on The Gottman Method, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory and Internal Family Systems. Alyssa is considered in the US a professional expert and has written and taught on the subjects of infidelity and betrayal repair, communication, neurodiversity in relationships, intimacy and complex sexuality issues such as desire discrepancies and life after sexual trauma.

In addition to her work with couples Alyssa has many years of experience with a variety of populations and presentations.  Her work started in community counseling with clients challenged by symptoms of anxiety, depression, addiction and trauma.  Her approach is strength based, trauma informed, systemic and person centered. She is an LGBQT affirming provider. Her style is proactive, empathic, direct and collaborative.

Alyssa is very passionate about assisting individuals and couples to find their inner wisdom and translate it into meaningful change. She brings an active and encouraging presence and engagement and strives to help people create a better life for themselves and their families through increased self awareness, active listening, clear communication, compassion, and a balance of boundaries and flexibility in order to improve relational and life resilience and satisfaction. She offers observation and ideas informed by nearly two decades of clinical experience while recognizing the highly unique lived experience of each person she shares space with. She firmly believes that everyone is an expert in themselves and that we all can benefit from some outside perspective and new ideas.

In her personal time Alyssa loves to spend time with her husband, kids and two new rescue bunnies, learn about and explore her new country, read, write, weave and make art out of found plants and objects. She has a lifelong love of learning.
