Dr. Liz Geiger (Ph.D.)
Practice Director and Registered Psychologist
clients ages 18 years and up
Liz has eleven years of advanced education in the United States in the field of psychology. She earned a Ph.D. from the Counselling Psychology department at Columbia University, a MA, MPhil, and Ed.M in mental health counselling from the same institution, and a BA in Psychology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from Muhlenberg College.
With over ten years of clinical experience, primarily based in New York City, Liz has worked in a wide array of settings from private practice to hospital inpatient units. She has extensive training in Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with influence from Multicultural Psychology and Feminist Theory. Additionally, Liz pulls from her personal experience with therapy and background as a psychological researcher. Through the integration of insight-oriented, mindfulness, and goal-directed interventions, Liz tailors treatment to meet her client’s individual needs. She describes her therapeutic style as integrative, collaborative, and resilience-focused.
The goal of therapy is to provide a trusting and judgment-free space to explore vulnerability and connect with our emotional experiences. Although this process can feel scary, it is a deeply rewarding process and a foundational component for growth. Liz uses her warmth, compassion, humour, and transparency to co-lead clients through this journey.
Liz has experience working with adults presenting with depression, anxiety and phobias, PTSD and trauma-related disorders, OCD, substance abuse, chronic pain, ADHD, ASD and neurodiversity, dissatisfying relationships and interpersonal difficulties, internalised discrimination and stigma, and identity development.
Notably, Liz has two main areas of specialty. She has a special interest and expertise in working with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Trauma (e.g., intimate partner violence, sexual assault, adverse childhood experiences, military trauma). Additionally, she has extensive experience supporting adults with ADHD using research-based strategies to build emotion regulation and executive functioning skills.
Liz works with clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural experiences. She has worked closely with LGBTQ+ communities both in her research and through her clinical work. Liz is fully registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and registered with Medicare.
