Talina Tapia Martinez

Provisional Psychologist

Clients ages 12 YEARS and up

Talina started her career as a psychologist in Mexico in 2003. She obtained a Psychology degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in a program that had great diversity in supervised clinical practices in settings from community centres, schools, detention centres and psychiatric institutions. She then worked as an educational psychologist in an international school. Since moving to Australia, Talina has obtained other qualifications that complement her psychology degree with a somatic focus. She has completed a 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training, Surf coach certificate and Breath-hold techniques. She also completed a Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy from the Institute of Applied Psychology and an EMDR certification with EMDRAA Australia and NZ.

Talina has experience supporting young individuals and adults as they navigate challenges with substance misuse, social and performance anxiety, depression, ADHD and neurodiversity, dissatisfying relationships, emotional reactivity and dysregulation, relational trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder. Since working as a provisional psychologist in Australia, she has worked in a range of settings such as community mental health and substance misuse support at Lives Lived Well with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. She has also worked in the inpatient addiction setting at Currumbin Clinic and at Gunnebah Addiction Retreat.

Talina’s areas of speciality are PTSD and complex trauma, performance anxiety and perfectionism (including sport performance), and substance abuse.

Talina believes therapy is most effective when it is safe, collaborative and specific to fit each person’s unique needs. What drives her in her profession is to see clients reconnect with their strengths, build resilience and discover new ways of approaching life with clarity and confidence. Talina creates a therapeutic space that feels supportive, non-judgmental and empowering, where clients feel heard and encouraged to make meaningful change.

Over the years, Talina has obtained a diverse skill set with a range of training experiences such as a Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy, training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), as well as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She is currently developing her expertise in Attachment theory (Dynamic Maturational Model as well as Psychodrama). This diversity, along with her ability to offer therapy in English and Spanish, allows her to adapt therapy to meet the unique needs of the client and create an integrative, evidence-based approach to support change.

Outside the therapy room, Talina prioritises self-care and draws inspiration from her passions like practicing yoga and boxing, golf, freediving, surfing and fishing or swimming with humpback whales in the Kingdom of Tonga.

Talina works on Wednesdays and Saturdays. She is currently accepting new clients.

Please note that Talina is currently working as a provisional Psychologist while she completes requirements for full registration in Australia. As such, she is unable to access Medicare rebates at this time. Talina is offering a reduced session price to accommodate and ensure sessions affordable.
