Melanie completed her undergraduate psychology studies at Swinburne University, Melbourne in before relocating to the Byron Shire. Following the attainment of a Graduate Diploma of Psychological Sciences at Bond University, Melanie completed a two year psychology internship and is a registered psychologist.
With an affirming and empathetic approach, Melanie strives to provide a space for clients to increase a connection to self, others and their inner experience. Working with a range of individuals and presentations, Melanie’s warm and attentive nature and relational approach is especially suited to client’s who struggle to develop safety in relationships.
Melanie currently specialises in the treatment of workplace compensable injuries, including PTSD, C-PTSD, adjustment disorder, anxiety, depression, and burnout. Psychological interventions are also a fundamental component in effective pain management and adjustment to physical injury. Melanie has comprehensive experience in assisting clients to improve their relationship to pain as well as addressing the emotions and cognitions associated with changes in physical ability. Melanie takes a trauma-informed, evidence-based and holistic approach to treatment and supports clients to achieve their rehabilitation goals. Melanie’s psychological treatment experience precedes three years in providing occupational rehabilitation case management to injured persons. As such, Melanie has a profound understanding to the complexities and secondary psychological impact often experienced by individuals under the scheme; and is committed to ensuring client’s feel supported and empowered while rehabilitating and navigating the return to work process.
Melanie also has experience in general private practice, providing treatment for individuals with a range of presentations including anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, complex trauma and interpersonal issues. With reflective inquiry, Melanie works to gently allow client’s to uncover their inner experience and develop increased self understanding. Through this internally derived insight, client’s often experience enhanced congruence and empowerment toward change, goals or recovery.
Developing individualised treatment, Melanie often integrates from approaches such as CBT, ACT, psychodynamic perspectives, somatic therapy, parts work and emotion focused therapy. Melanie also has a passion for yoga and nature based therapies and relishes the appropriate integration of these within treatment. In extension, Melanie encourages the conducive incorporation of client’s spiritual, faith or belief systems into treatment.
Melanie is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), SIRA accredited, Worksafe Victoria accredited and is also registered to provide services under Medicare.
